Health for All – Consolidation of Sao Tome and Principe National Health System

What we do?

We contribute to universal access to quality health care for the population of Sao Tome and Principe and promote the availability, quality and growing autonomy of specialised health care provision in Sao Tome and Principe.

Why?

  • Promote the availability, quality and increasing autonomy of preventive, primary and specialised health care in Sao Tome and Principe.
  • Strengthen the response capacity of the Sao Tomean National Health Service to combat new epidemiological challenges, with focus on Non-Communicable Diseases.

How?

  • Strengthening of Health Development Policies to promote management efficiency and financial sustainability of the health sector;
  • Improvement of the technical and material conditions of the preventive and primary healthcare network at district level;
  • National population with increased access to quality specialised healthcare in loco and at a distance through the telemedicine platform;
  • Empowerment of national Health Professionals for greater autonomy of the SNS in the provision of specialised care;
  • Strengthening of the response capacity of the Sao Tome and Principe National Health System for the prevention, control, diagnosis and treatment of Non Communicable Diseases (NCD);

For whom?

  • All the santomean population, as users of the National Health Service;
  • 855 health professionals integrated in the National Health System;
  • 5 doctors, 2 laboratory technicians and 2 equipment maintenance technicians benefiting from long and medium-term training in Portugal;
  • Sao Tome and Principe Ministry of Health.
